Holton Walker became an avid kayak fisherman around 2008 in the waters around Texas’ Coastal Bend, where the 26-year-old grew up.
The Schertz, Texas, native has fished the rivers and lakes in North Carolina, where he currently resides, and spent several months in Central America chasing prized game fish from the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Holton recently qualified to compete in the 2017 Kayak Bass Fishing Championship in Tennessee.
Holton’s personal best catch for Largemouth Bass weighed 10.5 pounds while recording three Top 10 Kayak Fishing tournament finishes in 2016.
Holton has proudly served with the US Coast Guard on search and rescue aircraft for the past eight years and feels privileged to have been directly involved with saving 11 lives and assisting in the rescue or recovery of 28 others.
Holton’s true passion for kayak fishing comes from the enjoyment of applying his work experience and water survival knowledge to help push kayak safety messages to fellow kayak fisherman across the country.
For 2017, Holton plans to fish in 15 to 20 on-site tournaments as well as fish in 20 online based Catch, Photo and Release tournaments with both freshwater and saltwater species.
Holton launched Apto Outdoors, a website dedicated to fishing and hunting in North America. The site features a weekly blog about various outdoor activities centered on largemouth bass and other freshwater species. Holton uses YakGear products when he is out on the water to ensure every trip is successful.
Holton also updates the Apto Outdoors Twitter page daily with pictures and links on hunting and fishing and will update the Apto Outdoor YouTube channel after every fishing and hunting trip.
