The new Gen 2 YakGear outriggers help you feel safe and secure in your kayak or canoe by utilizing the stabilizing effects of the re-designed floats. Stability while paddling is a problem for some paddlers. Whether you are standing to sight cast at fish, traversing through choppy waters, or paddling with the kids, the YakGear Outrigger system provides a more comfortable paddling experience. The YakGear Outriggers provide an easy to install safety net for everything from rocking back and forth to toppling into the water. This set comes with (2) outriggers, one for the port and one for the starboard side of your watercraft. The adjustable outrigger arms are 30 inches long and will provide a float base roughly 22 inches from the port and starboard side of the boat. The outriggers are attached by using a RAILBLAZA StarPort base mounted to the boat. The outriggers can be removed at any time making your watercraft easy to transport, leaving only the RAILBLAZA base. The adjustable outrigger arms can be raised independently if you are getting close to a dock or other obstruction. Installation placement of the outriggers may be mounted in the front or rear of your watercraft. The included floats have pre-installed threading (1/4 x 20 brass insert) to mount a RAILBLAZA StarPort HD (included) directly to the float, which is used to connect to the outrigger arms. These outriggers can attach to a canoe by using a piece of Hardie board (not included). These outriggers are best for total weights under 350 pounds. As always, this complete kit comes with all stainless steel installation hardware, installation instructions, and rigging tips from YakGear.

In the pictures, you will also see how to install a thwart on your canoe to add YakGear Outriggers. You can use Hardie board or any hardwood. Screws for installation to the top of a gunnel will need to be purchased at a local hardware store. Pipe foam was added on the front and back to hang your favorite lures. You can also use the thwart as a console to add a Railblaza DrinkHold, StowPod, additional rod holders or a Fish Finder Mount.

New Generation 2 outriggers are the bomb. Out on Lake Michigan with rollers, they added the stability I needed to be confident trolling for Salmon. Great adjustability, camera mounts, and durability are all a plus. Highly recommend this if you travel in rough waters. Best W Lutman

I just placed a set of the YakGear Gen 2’S on my Ascend H10 (AKA Lil Hooker). I took Lil Hooker out yesterday, May 11, 2020, to Foster Lake Oregon ( Big reservoir) & I admit, my kayak never felt more steady. With the wind & “Rollers” I experienced at times, I would have quit fishing for the day (before noon), however, with the stabalizers, I felt comfortable & I was able to stay out & fish, even though at times the wind was pushing me just under 2 mph, per the Garmin GPS fish finder.

I also stood up in Lil Hooker leaving shore just to try it. I paddled like a paddle board about 30 feet from shore ( enough of a try). Again, without the Gen 2’s this wouldn’t have been an option.

I had to place the Gen 2’s in an angle behind my seat, otherwise I would be hitting them with the paddle. Even though I don’t have the full extension of the Gen 2’s for the optimal effectiveness, I was still extremely impressed with this product!

These Gen 2’s feel like quality! The solid light weight “Pontoons” feel strong! The outriggers “Arms,” again light weight, but feel very durable. The starport Railblaza connector fastened nicely & the lock system is easy to use & works great. The Gen 2’s altogether with Railblaza make a very easy to use system that is very simple & quick to set up & take down.

I recommend these products (YakGear & Railblaza) to anyone who wants to concentrate on relaxing or fishing without the fight of keeping completely balanced. Rember, while your busy reeling in that fish a boat wake or roller at some point will catch you off guard!

    YakGear & Railblaza, thank you!

Absolutely love them! Game changer….enough said.

  7. Chris Kuntz

These are fantastic. I put them on a 10ft flat bottom boat that was extremely unstable and now you can stand in it with ease. Very light, very well made, and easy to adjust.

  8. Carlan

Great product. Would recommend that Yak Gear consider adapting the mounts to allow 5-10 degrees of internal or external rotation to allow for perfect alignment once the mounts are attached to kayak/canoe

I put them on my custom ascend 12t with a trolling motor and I was able to stand up and drive it like a dream. I was curious about how good they were I took the kayak with the stabilizers of the coast of Huntington Beach with 5ft seas and 20 mph wind and it went over waves like a dream.

I put these on a wilderness systems Aspire 105. The install was tricky because I wanted to front mount them for standing/casting, and the aspire is rounded, not flat. I’ll begin with my request to YakGear, is that if the 12 degree angled adjustment prongs were manufactured to be alternating instead of opposing/even each other, you could adjust to every 6 degrees instead of every 12. This would have been immensely helpful to me, the owner of a rounded body kayak. I tried installing in a few different locations/angles/layouts and could never get the floats exactly even, but if your product had adjustments every 6 degrees, it would have worked perfectly. That being said, your product did what it was supposed to do on my first outing. I paddled to my destination, lowered the arms, and felt stable enough to stand and cast, even in good current. When I was done, I raised the arms and paddled back. Simple. Easy. I’ve given this a five star because it functioned perfectly, even if the outrigger floats don’t line up perfectly on my rounded body kayak.

I need to know if you can fit them on the back of an old sea-going scupper pro kayak that is fitted with a kayaksailor kit.

I love my setup unfortunately one of the arms connectors broke so will be good if I can buy a replacement but don’t know where to buy it!!
